(PLEASANTON, CA.) – Community of Character’s Annual barbeque fundraiser will be hosted on Saturday, August 8, starting at 5pm.
Located at 3649 Chelsea Ct., Pleasanton, the barbeque will feature a live band, auctions, and plenty of food.
The school district Union City, CA., will be hosting a similar fundraising event, the Diamonds in Education Gala.
The dishes being served at the barbeque are detailed in a poster created to promote the event.
"Meal includes Fred's famous (Tri-Tip) steak, salad, fresh brown butter corn, homemade baked beans, several vegetarian dishes, and a dessert."

Providing live music at the event will be Rusty Vinyl, a Tri-Valley-based rock band. Consisting of five members, the band typically performs covers of music from the late sixties and early seventies.
Tickets can be purchased here and are going for $100 each.
All of the revenue generated from the event will be put toward the Community of Character’s Juanita Huagen Scholarship fund.
According to their website, Juanita Huagen was a trustee and president of the Pleasanton Unified School Board.
“Juanita had a passion for the children in the community,” it says. “The scholarship honors a student from the High Schools of the Pleasanton Unified School District who exemplifies the character traits of the Community of Character Collaborative through example and service.”
She served as a trustee on school boards in Pleasanton for 28 years, passing away in 2007 at the age of 69 due to cancer.

This scholarship is typically $1000. This amount varies depending on available funding. It can be awarded to seniors from any of the three Pleasanton high schools if they exhibit Community of Character’s six core values.
Awarding thousands of dollars in scholarships itself is the Parks, Recreation & Libraries program in Roseville, CA.

To qualify for the scholarship, students must:
Be a current high school senior
Reside in or attend a high school in Pleasanton
Expect to be enrolled in college or an accredited post-secondary education institution
Be of good moral character
Entirely avoid illegal drugs, tobacco, vaping products, or alcohol
Submit their application by the announced deadline
Additionally, applicants agree to participate in the annual awards luncheon with the scholarship sponsor by submitting their application.

Community of Character Board Member Linda Kelly spoke during public comment at Pleasanton’s city council meeting on July 7 in order to spread the word about this event.
During this time, she expressed that she was thankful that her organization was able to grant the Juanita Huagen scholarship to 14 students this year.
She also commented on the generosity of Council member Craig Eicher for allowing the barbeque to be hosted in his backyard.
