Empowering communities through transparent governance
(CALIFORNIA) -- California State Parks (CSP) is a priceless Christmas gift to give yourself at no cost.
That's right, hiking in the awesome park system throughout the Golden State offers so much during the holidays, like a free afternoon of awe and wonder with loved ones in Mother Nature.
Now that's a holiday memory to have, especially this time of the year.
CSP wraps up 2025 with a Year in Review while it looks forward to an exciting future in the Weekly Digest. The Olympics, for example. Of course, the West Coast waters would be picked as the platform for the perfect surfers.

"Surfs up! One of our state beaches, known worldwide for its legendary surf spot, was selelcted to host the surfing competion in the 2028 Summer Olympics," the Weekly Digest reports. "LA28 selected Trestle Beach in San Onofre State Beach (SB) as the spot to welcome surfers competing for medals."
Less positive news, but the harsh reality in California is that Will Rogers State Historic Park was severely damaged by January's Palisades fire, which burned over 8,000 acres at the park and Topanga State Park (SP). Weekly digest reports the fire caused "significant destruction," which "destroyed several historic buildings, including Will Rogers’ iconic ranch house and the historic Topanga Ranch Motel complex."
CSP concludes, "While Spotify Wrapped your year in audio, we have our own version for the Weekly Digest."

Along with the Weekly Digest, OpGov.ai got a glimpse of what the park system offers on Facebook, only to find immediate awe seen below in the employee photo contest, inspiring staff members to share what they get to see every day.
What sets the contest apart, as if it's not innovative enough, is the Weekly Digest description of the photo and story about it here, taken by Michele Hernandez, a park interpretive specialist in the Colorado Desert District.
With the department for a decade, Hernandez's winning shot is worth every day of her tenure.
The innovative contest comes as California State Park system celebrates the Golden State's 175th Anniversary, highlighting park arts, virtual apps, and exhibits and programs. Not to mention travel ideas and increasing access and relevance among the miles of preserved land.

The park system makes it clear that without Golden State citizens, none of its beauty could be captured.
"As we close out 2025, the Communications and Marketing Division wants to share our deepest gratitude for the incredible stories, photos and videos you have contributed this year," the department magazine reports, adding readers' dedication, passion, and tireless efforts are the reason why the Weekly Digest continues to be an incredible source of annual information and inspiration."
OpGov.ai wishes CSP a Happy New Year and looks forward to covering the department next year!
