(PENSACOLA) --- Nearly 10 public hearings, 10 proclamations, and dozens of recommendations make up a lengthy July 23 Escambia County Board of Commissioners meeting agenda.
The first four public hearings on the agenda are petitions to vacate alleyways, rights-of-way, ingress, egress, and easements. Nestled among other public hearings for service animals and street lighting municipal services is citizen input on the extension of the One-Cent Local Option Sales Tax (LOST V) on the November 3 ballot.

The Growth Management Report on the agenda includes a public hearing on a small-scale amendment to the Future Land Use (FLU) map of Escambia County, which proposes changing a 4.69 (+/-) acre parcel from Commercial (C) to Mixed-Use Urban (MU-U).
The County Administrator's Report makes up most of the agenda, with more than 40 items to note. Most of the section includes contract awards, grants, and professional agreements for various purposes.
Agenda item #30 includes the purchase of multiple vehicles and equipment for the County Public Works/Roads Department.
Up to 10 quotes are provided for various types of vehicles, including waste service trucks, crew cab patch trucks, street sweepers, and cab tractors, with some of the equipment totaling over $250K each.

The Clerk & Comptroller's Report of the agenda covers recommendations regarding investment reports and the initiation of forfeiture on unclaimed monies.
It also includes the Tourism Development Tax June returns. According to the staff document, total collections in June 2026 were $2,577,264, up 4.4% from $2,469,281 in June 2025.

Speaking of vehicles, the Engineering Department recommends speed reductions on Erika Court and Chalker Road that are also up for approval.
The County Attorney’s report ends the agenda with four items, including the recommendation to continue in the National Opioid Litigation, which began in July 2021 when the county hired the Law Firm of Levin Papantonio to represent it as a participant.
The last agenda item concerning data centers within the unincorporated area of Escambia County will draw a crowd following the Pensacola City Council’s July 16 meeting, when a one-year moratorium on large-scale data centers within the city limits was passed.
