(ATLANTA) -- The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is gearing up for the fall and holiday weather.
At the Oct. 29 Transportation Committee meeting, officials passed many resolutions and ordinances, including speed bumps and runway equipment at the airport.
The meeting agenda outlines the agreement to purchase runaway equipment and to cover maintenance operations in the event of adverse weather conditions.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport sees a high volume of foot traffic from travelers. Approximately 108.1 million people visited the airport in 2024, according to the Atlanta Airport Chamber.

The airport also saw 796,224 takeoffs and landings in 2024.
But let’s talk speed bumps first.
According to the resolution, “members of the East Lake Neighbors Community Association approved a motion to install 'speed calming speed humps' on East Lake Drive from Pharr Road to Memorial Drive and requesting a 'hybrid' cross walk/speed hump type between Tupelo Street, SE and Memorial Drive.”
East Lake Drive is a residential street in the East Lake neighborhood in Atlanta. The resolution also stated, “the residents of the East Lake community and the surrounding area report that they experience excessive speeding along East Lake Drive and desire that vehicles use the road at a lower speed.”
OpGov.ai reached out to the mayor’s office and councilmembers to ask about the importance of investing in the airport and safe practices residents can take when traveling to the airport, but they did not respond to the below email.

OpGov.ai also reached out to Police Chief Patrick Labatt on the importance of public safety and speeding, to no avail, with both elected officials and the police chief not responding to comment.
OpGov.ai also reached out to Atlanta residents on Nextdoor about the new speeding device, but they also did not engage on the matter. The lack of response from anyone is disheartening to say the least. However, OpGov.ai reports on the matter with great respect, due to the public safety implications involved in both issues.
