Empowering communities through transparent governance
(ATLANTA)-- They say it is better to give than receive.
Peach State citizens are showing they are doing just that during the holiday season, beginning with Lift Up Atlanta.
Lift Up Atlanta offers numerous types of assistance, noting on the website, “during the winter months, we provide coats, gloves, scarves, and other winter wear to the homeless and families in need.”
“Every holiday season we provide hundreds of families with much needed food baskets,” according to the local group.
What is Christmas without toys for children?

Lift Up Atlanta makes it possible to donate funds for children to receive random toys or sponsor a child, assuring they get exactly what they asked Santa to get them. Founded by Roz Garner in 2011, Lift Up Atlanta helps thousands of people receive clothing, food, shelter, school supplies, and educational services.
Next, The Empty Stocking Fund, founded in 1927, also cares about giving back during the holidays.

The group gives parents the opportunity to choose the toys and gifts they want to give their children.
“We believe that EVERY child deserves to have joy-filled, magical, holiday memories,” according to the Empty Stocking Fund website.
They also offer a unique gift exchange, with parents opening presents from their children to them. Some parents may struggle financially and need a break when it comes to providing a positive Christmas experience. That is where Emmaus House comes in with The Children’s Christmas Festival.

Giving back during the holiday is a nationwide practice. The Salvation Army, founded in 1865, is making sure kids have presents for Christmas.
“The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program helps provide Christmas gifts for hundreds of thousands of children around the country each year,” according to the Salvation Army website.
Once a child or senior adult has been registered and accepted as an Angel , their Christmas wish list is shared with donors in your community who purchase gifts of new clothing and toys, the website adds.
The Angel Tree Program has been around since 1979.

The holidays are a special time to be thankful, spend time with family, and help those in need, and these organizations make that possible.
