(PLEASANTON, Calif.) — After 16 years of serving Tri-Valley shoppers, 99 Ranch Market at 4299 Rosewood Drive in Pleasanton's Rose Pavilion shopping center will permanently close Dec. 5, 2026, affecting 54 employees.
For many residents, the supermarket has been a regular stop for fresh seafood, Asian vegetables, specialty ingredients and everyday groceries.

Why is it closing?
Parent company Tawa Supermarket Inc. has described the closure as a business decision aimed at improving operations and allocating resources more efficiently. The company has not publicly confirmed whether declining sales, rent, or competition prompted the move.
But Pleasanton's grocery market has changed considerably since the store opened in 2010.
99 Ranch opened another Pleasanton location at Pacific Pearl in 2018, while Korean grocery chain H Mart recently entered the neighboring Dublin market. Shoppers now have more options than they did 16 years ago.
What does it mean for Pleasanton?
The closure will leave approximately 48,000 square feet of retail space vacant at Rose Pavilion. Losing a major grocery tenant could also affect nearby businesses that depend on supermarket customers.
For the 54 employees, the impact is more immediate: job losses just weeks before the holidays. It remains unclear whether transfers to other locations will be offered.
Customers can continue shopping at 99 Ranch locations at 2701 Stoneridge Drive in Pleasanton and 7333 Regional Street in Dublin.
The bigger question is what comes next for Rose Pavilion. With another large storefront becoming vacant, Pleasanton faces the challenge of attracting a replacement tenant.
For longtime shoppers, however, the loss is simpler: a familiar neighborhood grocery store is saying goodbye.
