San Francisco residents on NextDoor voted on a poll of 223, with 166 in favour of the extension and 57 opposed. “A forever ban is better,” commented one NextDoor user. Another commented that the ban should remain in place until data centers can use seawater to cool themselves and solar power for electricity.
“Vote no, it should be made permanent, not extended,” said another user. According to a poll conducted by USC, 49% of CA-11 voters support a moratorium while 28% oppose a moratorium. 23% of respondents are uncertain.

When asked whether or not they hold favorable opinions of major technology companies in California, 31% of CA-11 voters indicated favorable opinions while 51% indicated unfavorable opinions.
"These findings suggest San Francisco’s status as a major innovation hub has not insulated its voters from nationwide negative sentiment towards data centers and technology companies,” said the Democracy and Fair Elections Lab at USC.
The San Francisco Board of Supervisors is set to review the Planning Commission's investigative findings on data centers on November 10, 2026. The BOS will vote on the moratorium extension at a future meeting date which is to be determined.
